The Agrimensores and Roman Mathematics
The Agrimensores and Roman Mathematics (AgRoMa) project, based at the Newcastle University, is an AHRC-funded research project designed to study the Roman practical mathematics tradition, producing new editions, translations and commentaries of the collections of maths problems used in ancient Roman mathematical education and preserved among the treatises of the Roman land surveyors (agrimensores).
We also investigate how such materials can be used in a modern educational environment to support the teaching of basic numeracy and calculation, and encourage cross-curricular dialogue and teaching between humanities and STEM subjects.
